I was at my favorite spin studio and the instructor started talking about Burnt-Out. I started thinking about how that was the case for me three years ago until I made the switch. You see I am what some people would call a “seasoned” lawyer. Having practice law for nearly 20 years, I can say that it is not an easy profession. In fact, when I started law school, one of the first things you are taught is the concept of winning. You will be representing a litigant and your sole goal is to win your case. That means you do whatever it takes. Now, little did I know that could mean losing sleep, losing or gaining weight, stressed beyond measure, an endless sense of urgency, complaints from virtually all angles, injustices, losing, winning, working early, working late, not being with family, developing diseases, unhealthy living etc. etc. You catch my drift. This was my story and it may be different for other lawyers, but this lawyer now lives happily ever after.
The practice of law derives from masculine energy. It is the nature of profession. Now, when you are consumed with it and it is not your “authentic” nature or energy, it can cripple you, as it did for me. As I started moving into personal development, I found a deeper connection with my true self and now flow with my feminine energy, which is making me happier everyday of my life. I have found less hustle and more flow is the key in avoiding burnt out.
I did a huge turn around in my career, as I found it didn’t serve me anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I am still a lawyer but a different kind of lawyer. While I had some amazing cases and met some beautiful people, I realized that my voice and feminine energy is better served by honoring me, Jackie. It took me some time to get here but I am found.
Burnt-out is greater in certain professions than others and realizing it sooner is better. You receive clues from the universe in your life before you Burn out. Listen, stop, breathe and receive the message. It happens in your body first. Pay attention what is it about that pain that causes you to suffer? As Tony Robbins says suffering is optional and pain is unavoidable. If your pain causes you to suffer well after the pain is gone, are you being sent a message from God, Source, Universe that you need to pay attention to? Heed that call.
Once you heed that call develop a ritual that will serve you daily. My ritual begins with gratitude, drinking water, answering the question I wrote the night before, meditating with breathing exercises and listening to my pre-recorded Life vision processes affirmation and physical activity. This is daily and it has brought me, so much happiness in my life. I get to plan my day and serve beautiful souls with this feminine energy that serves me NOW. Find your authentic self however long it takes you, your body will love you and bring you so much joy.
