Since I was a little girl, my friends would come to me for advice whether it was boy trouble, fashion, heartaches, growing pains, next steps or problem solving. As an attorney, they came to me seeking professional help but I uncovered that some had deep seeded issues that were creating more problems in their lives. Whether it was personal or professional, I found a common theme why people were stuck in life. What I found was that they were falling victim to their limiting beliefs, which were consuming them. That is, If you grew up feeling unloved, unworthy or not enough these were limitations that wouldn’t go away because you consulted a professional to “fix.” In order to move pass your “problem” you need to understand that in order to change your life, you need to get out of your own way.
I have been stuck in my life as well but learning how to get out of my way has allowed me to create a life in my terms. As a coach, supporter, counselor or friend, I have learned to approach the “problem” slowly. I lend an ear but when the conversation starts becoming a pity party, I have learned to re-direct their attention. I help guide them so they can find the answers within themselves. Just like the saying goes, “you can lead the horse to the water, but you can’t make it drink”.
